This Republic Period Porcelain Meiping Snuff Bottle was produced during the early 20th century. Its black ground is decorated with flowers, foliage, and butterflies in gold enamel. The spoon is made of brass and has some tarnishing and residue from use. The base is has a four character mark, "Hall Where Benevolence Resides", in underglaze blue. This mark is associated with the Hongxian period, 1915 to 1916. However, this bottle was likely created later in the Republic period.
There is some enamel loss in a few areas on the body revealing the white paste of the bottle. The areas are very small and are shown in the pictures.
The bottle is approximately 7 cm (2.75 inches) tall.
