This Chinese Tobacco Leaf Porcelain Gravy Boat is truly unique. It was likely a custom made export piece. However, the original provenance is unknown. The hand-painted mark on the base can be found in The Complete Collection of Porcelain of the Jiangxi Province, which features a wide variety of porcelain from the Republic period.
The enamels are vivid and show little to no signs of wear. There is some loss, consistent with use and age, to the gilt trim.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are some firing flaws on the base, but no damage.
The boat is an impressive size, measuring 14.75 inches long, 5.25 inches across the body, and 6.5 inches tall.
