During the Republic Period, the production of cloisonné experienced a revival, marked by an emphasis on traditional techniques and designs. Workshops in Beijing produced high-quality cloisonné items, featuring intricate patterns and vibrant colors. Craftsmen from this period sought to balance innovation with tradition, resulting in pieces that reflected both modern influences and classical Chinese aesthetics. The use of electric kilns became more widespread, improving the consistency and quality of the enamel.

This vase is a very fine example of later cloisonne. Although it was possibly produced in the latter years of the 19th century, the quality of the piece is consistent with finer examples from the Republic Period. It is decorated in a common dragons and flaming pearl motif. However, the additional details of the lotus flowers, peonies, and chrysanthemums along with the gilded cloisons on a yellow ground, make this vase an exceptional variation to the common theme.

The vase is large, measuring approximately 11 inches tall. There is overall wear consistent with age, but no apparent damage. "China" is stamped into the base.
