These two guardians represent prosperity, balance, and protection in the Japanese and Chinese cultures. When two are shown together, one is usually a male and the other female. These shi shi figures are decorated in traditional Kutani style with gold highlights. The features are detailed and expressive. One figure is slightly larger than the other. The statues date to the late 19th to the early 20th century.
There is no damage.
The dogs are approximately 7 inches tall and about 8.5 inches from ear to tail.
